The eye of the beholder
You may have guessed this is not a New England image, however it has a tale that maybe of interest. This image was captured on the road to Haleakala National Park on Maui, Hawaii.
I was more interested in reaching the summit of Haleakala than stopping - “to take a picture of cows”. However, my better half, requested (actually insisted) that I stop to take a picture of the Jacorada Tree with the cows grazing.
Once I got home to see it on my screen. I decided to do some photoshop work to remove some distractions and then converted it to a painterly effect. It became my wife’s favorite and is the image she has on her cell phone.
A few months later, I started to listen to the Radiant Vista Podcast with Mark Johnson’s Photoshop Workbench (I highly recommend you listen).
I decided to submit this image to the Radiant Vista. Mark selected the image for one of his workbenches as a vehicle to demonstrate a montage technique. Though Mark really liked the image, he didn’t care much for the cows and suggested that they be removed. This is my rendition of the image as suggested by Mark.
I decided to print both renditions. With printing on canvas as my favorite method for display.
Couple of lessons learned -
- slow down - there maybe an image where you least expect one
- what is appealing about that image is in the eye of the beholder
Let me know what version you like.
